Ian's teaching method asks students of all dance backgrounds to use their strengths to absorb new techniques and methods while blending style and performance. He aim's to help students find their individual styles in movement while building on their technical foundation. Each class begins with a blended ballet/jazz-based warmup that encourages students to prepare themselves physically and mentally while working through a series of exercises. Furthermore, class combinations will push students to incorporate their personalities and mannerisms to enhance each classes movement style and storyline. As a dancer and teacher, I’ve found that blending numerous dance styles, like paints on a palette, enables me to present a vast range of emotion and physicality. As a result, he preaches versatility and asks his students to take risks while exploring movements and styles that may be new to them in the hope they discover that technical training combined with other dance methodologies makes them better dancers and more marketable.
